Your exciting day trip to Meknes and Volubilis from Fes begins at 9:00 AM when we pick you up from your hotel in Fes. We drive across the beautiful Saiss Plain to visit the ancient Roman city of Volubilis, a site that is over 2,000 years old.
At Volubilis, you’ll explore amazing Roman ruins old olive presses, grand houses, detailed mosaics, large stone arches, and tall columns. You’ll see how people lived during Roman times and also in the later Berber period.
After visiting Volubilis, we head to the nearby holy town of Moulay Idriss, where a descendant of the Prophet Mohammed is buried. This town is very special to Moroccan Muslims, and thousands come here every August for a religious festival. You’ll walk through its narrow streets and see the green-tiled roofs of its shrine.
Next, we drive to Meknes, one of Morocco’s Imperial Cities and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will visit: The beautiful Bab Mansour, one of the most stunning gates in Morocco, and El Sehrij es-Souani, which includes huge old granaries and horse stables and Moulay Ismail Mausoleum…
There will be time for lunch (optional, not included) before we leave Meknes around 4:40 PM. We’ll return to your hotel in Fes at around 5:45 PM.
